Operation Christmas Child
Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian organization that, among many other activities around the world, manages Operation Christmas Child. This group sends shoebox gifts to children around the world. The amazing journey of a shoebox gift begins with the loving Christians who pack the shoeboxes; which results in evangelism, discipleship and spreading of the good news of Jesus Christ.
Eatonton First UMC is an enthusiastic supporter of Operation Christmas Child and donates between 300 and 400 shoebox gifts each year.
Rev. Dr. Gary Mason, Rethinking Conflict
Rethinking Conflict developed out of the work of its founder the Rev. Dr. Gary Mason. He has worked extensively over the past thirty years in conflict transformation, peace building and reconciliation, primarily within the Northern Irish Peace Process. In his career, Gary has been based no more than 200 meters from the peace walls that divided Catholic and Protestant communities in Belfast.
Gary played a leading role in establishing the Skainos project in inner city Belfast, a world class urban social justice centre, developed in a post-conflict society as a model of coexistence and shared space. Since the completion of the Skainos project, in October 2012, Gary has been increasingly approached both locally, nationally and internationally to share his experiences on community transformation, social justice, conflict transformation, peace building and the role of religion in conflict.
Eatonton First UMC Sr. Pastor Jessica Terrell studied with Dr. Mason and supports his ministry.
